This article analyzes the transformation of the Do It Yourself (DIY) movement from its countercultural origins to its current role as a normative imperative on digital platforms. Drawing on the concept of deep mediatization (Hepp, 2022), this article examines how social media has transformed a practice rooted in autonomy into a mechanism of homogenization.The study draws on surveillance capitalism (Zuboff, 2020), the information regime (Han, 2022), and techno-feudalism (Durand, 2021) to show how algorithms and repetition dynamics on digital platforms actively shape behaviors while creating the illusion of freedom and empowerment. It argues that, paradoxically, what began as resistance has been transformed into an effective system of social control disguised as entertainment and practical solutions.
